While programs like this may be beyond the reach of smaller marketers, there’s more than one way to make gardening simple, easy, and fun for newbies. Take a look at your catalog and website through their eyes … consider an email program specifically for this group … take advantage of social media options. Strip away the jargon (remembering that may include basic concepts like “annual” and “perennial”), simplify the choices, provide support and encouragement. The important thing is to help new gardeners overcome their fears and become successful. Do a good job of that, and they’ll be back for more.
