Last year, virtually everyone selling vegetable plants and seeds had a banner year. According to a recent study conducted by the Garden Writers Association Foundation, 7% of 2009 vegetable gardeners were newbies, while the balance of the increase came from experienced gardeners growing more produce. Considering that difficult weather conditions nationwide resulted in disappointing harvests for many, I’ve been wondering what 2010 will bring.
The same Garden Writers Association study reports that 37% of vegetable gardeners plan to grow more this coming year, an excellent sign for us all.
